ThePlanet.com Data Center Woes
I think I got quite lucky having my server in a different data center of ThePlanet.com. One of their data centers experienced an explosion of a power transformer and as a result a large portion of the data center had to be shutdown. This happened Saturday and as of today (Monday / Noon) several thousand servers are still down. So, I consider myself really lucky not having any hardware involved.
This really reminds me about having a good disaster recovery plan in place. I am backing up my data to several locations and so I would have been able to move most of my websites (except one large forum) to my other web hosting solutions that I have. Now that I just typed this I am actually thinking about setting up accounts for all my websites on the different locations and all I would have to do if disaster strikes is to change the DNS and to upload the latest changes. This would be mainly databases and I would be back up and running as soon as DNS propagates.
Anyway, I hope you are not affected by this outage at ThePlanet. If you are, you have my full sympathy and I hope that you will be up and running soon. And last but not least, if you are affected and do PPC marketing – turn off your ads.
